Alternative detergents in case of emergencies.
(Oh no! I’m out of laundry detergent, what now?)
The last thing you want to worry about is a mountain of laundry to do and discovering that the laundry detergent has run out.
Rinse the bottle.
Put some water in the detergent bottle and shake it a little. Repeat this procedure once more and you’ll surely have enough soap to wash a load of laundry.
Sodium borate (borax) or sodium bicarbonate
Sodium bicarbonate and sodium borate are two detergent enhancers, so if your detergent with water has become too weak, add half a cup of one of the two to the bottle, shake well, and place it in the dispenser of your washing machine.
Chlorine-free bleach; oxygen-based.
If you are completely out of liquid detergent, use half a cup of non-chlorine bleach, put the powder in the liquid detergent compartment, add a liter of warm water to the compartment, and only then turn on the washing machine. The warm water will help the powder dissolve and prevent residue from remaining on your clothes.
Make your own soap at home.
If you have enough time, make your own homemade soap. It’s super simple! Mix the sodium borate, sodium bicarbonate, and shavings of bar soap. Grate the bar soap into very fine shavings and mix all the ingredients together.
PRODUCTS THAT SHOULD NOT BE USED
There are some products that should not be used in your washing machine. These are:
- Dishwasher Detergent
This type of detergent, whether liquid or in block form, can be very acidic and damage your clothes. The detergent can also cause bleaching, staining your clothes and leaving residue.
- Liquid detergent, liquid soap, shampoo and shower gel.
These products can produce a lot of foam. Even a small amount will produce enough foam to damage your washing machine.
- Other Cleaning Products
These products can damage your clothes, cause fading , and also damage your washing machine.
Alternative products for hand washing clothes
If you only need to hand wash a few items, you can consider these products below as alternatives:
- Shampoo
Baby shampoo is better than other types of shampoos. Just make sure you use one that doesn’t contain conditioner. Use a small amount, which will be sufficient and will prevent excessive foaming.
- Bar Soap
Bar soap can also be used and is great for specific stains.
- Liquid detergent
Liquid detergent can be used in small amounts. This product foams a lot and can be very difficult to rinse. Avoid detergents that contain bleach.
- Liquid Soap
Choose a liquid or bar soap that does not contain conditioner. Control the amount used to avoid excessive foam and difficulty rinsing. Small tips make a big difference in our daily lives, in case you don’t have time to put these tips into practice. Leave your clothes with us and we will take great care of them!
