How to remove cigarette odor from clothing.

We all know that smell. The one that lingers after a night at a bar, dinner with friends who smoke, or a night at a concert. That old ashtray stench that follows you home and permeates everything, and now what? HOW TO ELIMINATE CIGARETTE ODORS FROM CLOTHES? Without Washing:

Air out

The first thing smelly clothes need is some fresh air. Hang the clothes in a well-ventilated area…better yet, hang them outside. It’s amazing what a little sun and fresh air can do.

Odor eliminator spray

If the smell of smoke remains, keep the garment hanging and use an odor eliminator on the entire garment. You can make your own odor-eliminating spray by combining equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Add 20-30 drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lemon or peppermint oil.

Baking soda

Place the garment in an extra-large zip-top plastic bag with plenty of room to move around. If you don’t have a large enough zip-top bag, you can also use a plastic shopping bag or a garbage bag. Add ½ cup of baking soda, close or tie the bag tightly, shake quickly, and let it sit overnight. This will give the baking soda time to absorb the odor. After it has sat, take the bag outside, open it, and shake out any excess baking soda.

Steam

Steam is another option for reducing odor in clothes that can’t be machine washed. Check the garment’s care label to see if you can steam your clothes. Use a 3:1 distilled water solution for scrubbing and an alcohol solution for the water reservoir for extra odor removal.

In the washing machine:

Vinegar for Pre-Wash: Before washing, soak your clothes in vinegar. Add 1 cup of vinegar to the sink or a bucket and fill with warm water. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for a fresh scent. Soak the clothes for 30-60 minutes, then wash according to the instructions.

Lemon juice

Fresh lemon juice can work wonders for all types of cleaning, especially in the laundry. It can lighten stains and remove all kinds of odors, like smoke, simply by adding ½ cup of lemon juice to the wash.

Vodka

Alcohol is a powerful and safe odor remover for most washable fabrics. Pour ½ cup of inexpensive vodka (or isopropyl alcohol) into the laundry to eliminate stubborn odors.

Check if there is a smell of smoke coming from your washing machine.

You may need to clean your washing machine, especially if you have a newer, high-efficiency model. Follow your machine’s instructions or repeat the washing steps without adding any clothes.

Trust a professional cleaner.

If you only have clothes to dry clean and airing or bagging them isn’t enough, you’ll have few choices. A good professional has several dry and wet cleaning options for clothes with a strong cigarette odor. Clean Express Laundry your friend and, above all, your clothes’ friend.
